The TechLaw Group, Inc. held its spring 2014 meeting March 19 – 22 in Bangalore, the “Silicon Valley” of India. TechLaw’s mission is to keep its member firms on the cutting edge of technology, enabling them to guide their clients through the complex international technology marketplace. To that end, the four days in Bangalore provided members the unique opportunity to directly experience India and delve deeper into the nuances of the Indian technology industry. “India is a major player in virtually every technology sector, and any serious technology lawyer should have firsthand experience in India. Holding this meeting in Bangalore demonstrates the commitment of TechLaw and its member firms to the international technology market,” said Rich Gray, TechLaw’s President.
Trilegal, TechLaw’s Indian member firm, hosted the meeting. Trilegal has advised clients in some of the largest, most complex and cutting-edge domestic and cross border transactions in India. With this vast experience, Trilegal organized the meeting to provide member firms with the opportunity to develop a deep and nuanced understanding of the Indian technology market, and to provide them with exposure to executives from a broad range of Indian technology companies.
The meeting began with a fascinating tour of two of the companies that have placed India firmly on the world technology map: Infosys and the Mahindra Reva Electric Car Factory. The tour of the Infosys campus was impressive, both as an architectural work of art and as a global consulting, technology and outsourcing solution business. And equally impressive was Mahindra Reva Electric Car Factory, named one of the Top 50 most innovative companies in the world by Fast Company. Mahindra’s mission is to advance the production and design of electric cars worldwide.
The meeting also featured a continuing legal education program entitled The Butterfly Effect. Speakers from TechLaw member firms covered topics designed to both provide participants with a deeper understanding of doing business around the world in an increasingly networked environment, and to showcase the member firms’ world class legal expertise. Specific topics included; Social Media and Internet, Managing a Global Workforce, New Technologies, and Doing Business Abroad. Senior members of the general counsel staff from key technology companies in Bangalore were in attendance, including AstraZeneca, Hewlett Packard, Bosch, IBM, Intel, Cisco, GE, Infosys, and LinkedIn.
“We were honored to host TechLaw’s first meeting in India. It not only allowed us to promote India and its robust technology industry, but to also demonstrate the global reach provided through our TechLaw membership,” said Rahul Matthan, Trilegal’s representative on the TechLaw Board.
TechLaw’s fall 2014 meeting, hosted by Plesner, will be held October 29-30, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
